General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)

The European (EU) new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and their implications for the Belgian Congo Study Circle The European (EU) General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)
come into force on 25th May 2018 and all organisations operating in the EU, whether they be massive commercial corporations or small private clubs must comply (or risk legal sanctions).
The GDPR are to protect the privacy of the individual.

In the past, only data held electronically was protected. From 25th May 2018 that restriction will be removed. Basically, the GDPR state that we must have explicit consent to contact
an individual by post, phone or electronically.

The GDPR apply to all countries in the EU and some closely associate countries. Implicitly, data held on individuals who are not resident in an EU country receive the same protection.
I.e. a BCSC member living in say the USA cannot be contacted by us unless we have his consent.

We must have evidence on file to show we have your agreement. A simple tick-box response as follows will suffice:

My apologies for asking you to do this, but it is a legal necessity for the BCSC and not a bureaucratic exercise. The BCSC must possess an explicit Privacy Policy, one which is compatible
with GDPR and set out below. (Up to now we have used common sense and unwritten generally accepted rules of privacy, which is no longer adequate.)

The Belgian Congo Study Circle (BCSC) is committed to treating your privacy with the utmost respect and, as such, we will give you the opportunity to limit
the use of any information that we collect.

The BCSC will hold and process only that information which you have provided on joining the Study Circle. We will only contact you by the methods you have
agreed to at the time of joining the Study Circle and this will only be for Study Circle business, such as sending out the Bulletin & Auction List, membership renewal reminders.

The BCSC does not sell personal information nor does it pass on online information to any organisation or individual outside of its control.

This privacy policy applies also to the BCSC website and not to the website of any other organisation, or individual to which we provide links.

We will not be responsible and cannot protect your privacy if you disclose personal information through e-mail.
